Dermal Fillers - Miami, FL

Dermal Filler

Dermal fillers are a non-invasive rejuvenation treatment that require little to no recovery time. A liquid compound is injected into specific target areas, most commonly the lips, the cheeks, and nasolabial folds. The injections immediately hydrate and lift the soft tissue to give your skin a natural, youthful appearance. Dermal fillers are selected based on the severity of the facial lines and folds.

Dermal fillers correct the signs of aging, but this treatment does not stop the aging process altogether. To maintain wrinkle-free skin, you will need to commit to periodic treatments, or the face will return to its original state. Dermal fillers that contain hyaluronic acid may be the best choice because of its compatibility with the human body.

Hyaluronic acid potently binds to water and when injected into the skin it softens, hydrates and add volume to the skin. It is a minimally invasive procedure that acts like an inflated cushion to support facial structures and tissues that may have lost volume or elasticity due to normal aging.

Juvederm XC® – Miami, FL

Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid filler that is FDA approved to last up to one year. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that is naturally produced by the body; it helps hydrate and add volume to your skin. The purpose of Juvederm is to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. It is injected into the mid to deep dermis (below the outer layer of the skin). The injectable gel is a smooth consistent dermal filler that helps to instantly restore your skin’s volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds such as your “smile lines” or “parenthesis” (nasolabial folds), which are the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth.

How does Juvederm Work?

Juvederm is a nonsurgical, physician-administered treatment. Dr. Martinez injects Juvederm under the skin using a fine needle to fill the soft tissue of the dermis—the dense inner layer of skin beneath the epidermis—to add volume and diminish wrinkles and folds.

Juvederm Ultra vs. Juvederm Ultra Plus?

Juvederm comes in two formulations – Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Ultra Plus. Juvederm Ultra Plus is used to correct deeper folds and deformities since it is a more robust product. Juvederm Ultra is a smoother, softer product that does well for the lips, nasolabial folds that are not too severe, and finer wrinkles around the mouth and eyes. Dr. Martinez will evaluate the depth of your wrinkles and folds prior to treatment to determine which product would provide the best results.

Is the procedure painful?

Injections may cause some discomfort during and after the injection. The smooth consistency of Juvederm allows Dr. Martinez to administer it easily and smoothly. Juvederm is injected directly into the skin using a fine needle to reduce injection discomfort.

What is the Juvederm procedure like?

Because Juvederm is a simple, nonsurgical wrinkle treatment, there is minimal recovery or downtime. The procedure is quick and easy. Your entire Juvederm appointment will take about half an hour from start to finish, depending on the number of areas being treated. Here’s what to expect when you visit us for treatment:

Before going to the appointment: Avoid consuming any medications that can increase bleeding, such as aspirin and anti-inflammatory (Aleve, Advil, Ibuprofen), for at least a week prior to treatment in order to reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site.

Before the procedure: Dr. Martinez will have you remove any make up and wash the areas that you will have injected.

The procedure: Dr. Martinez will inject the Juvederm under your skin to augment or fill wrinkles and folds. Following the injection, he may gently massage the treated areas.

After the procedure: there is minimal recovery or downtime. For the first 24 hours following treatment, you should avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure, and consumption of alcoholic beverages in order to help minimize the risks of temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the treatment sites.

What are common side effects?

The most commonly reported side effects are temporary injection-site redness, swelling, pain/tenderness, firmness, lumps/bumps, and bruising. Most side effects are mild and moderate in nature, and their duration is short lasting (7 days or less). It is equally important that your Juvederm injections are administered in a safe, sterile environment to minimize any risks.

When will I start to see results?

You should see an immediate improvement in the treatment areas. Most patients need more than one treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothness.

How long will the results last?

Juvederm is the ONLY hyaluronic acid (HA) filler FDA approved to last up to 1 year. However, results may vary and correction is temporary. Supplemental treatments may be required to achieve and maintain optimal results.

Much like Juvederm, Restylane uses hyaluronic acid to reduce wrinkles and folds by adding volume to the skin. It is also very effective in enhancing the fullness of your lips. The injectable gel will be absorbed naturally by the body over time. With follow up treatments at 4.5 or 9 months, Restylane results can last up to 18 months.

Restylane Results

Perlane is another treatment option found within the Restylane family of products. It is also a Hyaluronic gel designed to add volume to the skin. Perlane is also effective in reducing wrinkles, folds, smile lines and enhancing the fullness of lips.

The difference between Perlane and Restylane is that Perlane is a thicker gel and is injected deeper in the skin. It is a better option for clients with thicker skin or for wrinkles that originate deeper within the face. Perlane results last between six to nine months.
